DG Interns Say Farewell

DG Interns Say Farewell

Your DG summer interns Kendra, Olivia and Paige want to share a special farewell message with all of you!

Hey Discovery Girls!
As the school year is in full swing, I am now back in Los Angeles studying away. I am Natural Science major geared specifically towards going to graduate school to become a Physical or Occupational Therapist. My second year of college has been a blast so far and I can’t wait for the rest of the year!

Before I sign off, I just wanted to let you guys know that I had such a great time sharing with you this past summer and loved reading all of your mail and going through the Role Model Contest questionnaires. Always remember to be yourself, stay strong, and do what makes you happy :)

Hey girls!
It's been absolutely fantastic writing for you this summer. I loved getting all your wonderful comments and seeing what you had to say! What am I up to next? Well, as I write this, I'm sitting at my desk at UCLA. I'm a first year in college! I'm a bit scared since I'm away from my family and I don't know what the classes will be like. But I've already met such amazing people, and I know I'm going to be fine—I mean, I've gotten this far already, haven't I?

Hi Girls!
Thank you so much for reading the DG intern blog this summer! I have had so much fun sharing stories and tips with you and I have loved reading all of your comments and letters. My senior year of high school started about a month ago and now it is time to start focusing on my homework and college applications (high school is tough work!) I hope to get to talk to all of you again soon. Make sure to keep commenting on the different blogs and I'll make sure to keep reading your comments!

Thanks again for a great summer!

Summer Tanks...Perfect for Fall!

Summer Tanks...Perfect for Fall!

Now that school's starting, you might be thinking about going back-to-school shopping (if you haven't already!)...but you don't need to get a whole new wardrobe. Even when the sunshine starts to fade and the temperature starts dropping, one summer clothing item that you can still wear is a simple tank--something that almost every girl has! Just wear your tank over a shirt with sleeves...or wear it under a sweater or cardigan. With some mixing-and-matching, it'll look like you're wearing a completely different outfit! Can you think of any other ideas to wear summer clothing in the fall? We'd love to hear them!
Fantastic Fruit Salad

Fantastic Fruit Salad

Do you love sugary snacks? Well this is for you! Here’s a great fruit salad recipe that is sweet enough to please your sweet tooth and healthy enough to make your body happy, too! You will need: 1 apple 1 pear 1 cup of strawberries 1 banana 1 cup of yogurt—any flavor you want Instructions: 1. Wash your hands with soap before preparing any food. 2. Wash all of the fruit. 3. Very carefully (with adult supervision) cut the apple and pear into small, bite-size pieces. Pull the green leaves out of the tops of the strawberries, and then cut in half. Peel the banana and slice into pieces. 4. Put the sliced fruit into a bowl and add one cup of yogurt, mmm! This will make it creamy and sweet. Yogurt is healthy for your stomach and delicious, too! Mix the fruit and yogurt and enjoy! Be adventurous and try different fruits and toppings—maybe some nuts or even a sprinkle of cinnamon! We hope you enjoy this sweet healthy snack!
Summer Scavenger Hunt

Summer Scavenger Hunt

Need a boredom buster? Here’s a super fun scavenger hunt that will get your brain and body moving! Grab a few friends, siblings, parents, whoever! Split into groups, it doesn’t matter how many—you choose! Decide where you want to have the scavenger hunt: in the backyard only, the house, or even the whole street you live on. You could even go to a park or a beach—some people do them at the mall, now that’s creative! Make a list of things that all teams need to find—make it challenging! Your list will be different depending on where you are having your hunt. Look at the photo to see an example of a list of things to find around your home and yard. Make a copy of the list for each team and decide when to meet again—in 10 minutes, or 20 minutes, you decide. The teams then split up and race around trying to find all of the things on their lists. At the end of the time limit, meet again and see which team has the most items on the list—they’re the winners! Be creative with this great game, you can search for about anything and everything! Good luck!
End Of Summer Tips!

End Of Summer Tips!

Although the summer vacation is almost over, there is still time for a few last minute trips to the beach, pool, or water park! When I was a tween, I never knew what to bring with me to the beach... So I thought I would give you girls some tips on what to bring with you on your journey! Grab at least 1 towel to dry off with after going in the water. If you won't be swimming it's still good to have something to sit on. You will also need a bottle of sunscreen... This is to make sure to protect your skin from the sun! Then, grab a pair of sunglasses and a big hat, not only will you look super cute, but you'll protect your skin and your eyes, too! Bringing books, games, or sand toys will keep you entertained while you're enjoying the scenery. You should also some snacks and water bottles, or money to buy some so you stay hydrated and energized! Throw all of these in to a cute big bag and you are ready to go on a super fun trip! If you have any more ideas on what to bring, make sure to post them in the comments!
