Meet Gloria, DG Intern

Hi, girls! My name is Gloria and I’m the new intern here at Discovery Girls! After reading Lyn and Laura’s blogs this summer, you probably have a sense of what being a DG intern is all about. But there are a few things I’ve been doing that may surprise you! Check it out…

I was a hand-model!
It’s not every day that a picture of your hands is posted on the DG website for thousands of girls to see! When Alex, a DG staffer, asked me to help with a special DG project, I jumped at the chance. I had no idea what he needed me to help with, but I was just excited to be involved. It turned out that the project was really cool, and would involve me modeling…my hands! My job was to hold the four Fab Girls Guides toward the camera. As I was doing this, Alex said, “Smile!”

Wait—I was a little confused!
Wasn’t the photo supposed to be of my hands? Why did I need to smile? Alex explained that even though the focus would be on my hands, a hint of my facial expression would actually be seen. Plus, we want to show how excited we are about the Fab Girls Guides. So I held the books and flashed a big smile. After just a few clicks of the camera, we got the shot we needed. Then the designers took the picture and blurred my face. The final picture complete, it was posted on our “Fab Girls Giveaway” announcement during “Fab Girls Week” on DiscoveryGirls.com! Check it out here. [0] (Can you tell it’s me?!)

shoes, shoes, shoesI wrote an article!
I’ve always wanted to write a magazine article, and not long after I started the internship, I was given the opportunity. We love giving craft ideas to readers like you, so I came up with a Creative Corner project: cute, jeweled flats you can decorate yourself. I had a blast making six different designs, writing the directions, and even helping to photograph the shoes! Read the article in the February/March issue to find out how to make your own pair! It’s really easy to do, and you will end up with glam flats to wear any time! I love getting crafty, so send along your ideas for future crafts and maybe I’ll have the chance to help you with another project.

And, of course…
reading your mail I’ve been reading your questionnaires and reader mail! I’ve read questionnaires from a girl who plays four different sports, another who loves to write and learn new words, and one who has ancestors that were on the Mayflower! It’s interesting to read about each and every one of you because you are all so unique! Remember that we read all of your letters and questionnaires. So keep ’em coming, girls!

I will definitely keep you posted about my many other adventures here at DG. In the meantime, I’d love to hear from you! What would you like to know about me and what I do at DG? Please ask questions as comments to this post!

Until next time!
