In sports, what really matters most: how you play, or winning?

If you are playing a sport that makes you feel good and happy, you’ve already won no matter how the score comes out! But if you’re playing on a team that only cares about winning and is willing to make sacrifices or to be mean in order to win, you don’t have to follow that path. Playing for love makes victory sweeter and losing bearable. Love the game—then enjoy the win!

I think what matters most is winning. It doesn’t matter if you run too slowly, or you can’t hit, kick, throw, and catch as well as your teammates. You should just keep your eye on winning and the other team, and that will build up your confidence, help you to get better, and you’ll possibly learn some new strategies. You don’t have to be perfect at the sport, but believing in yourself will help you to have fun and to win!

I believe how you play matters most. When you’re playing on a team, it’s important to communicate with your teammates, work smoothly together, and cheer each other on. Winning is not everything, and sometimes you have to lose first in order to win later. You can learn from every loss—all you have to do is ask yourselves, “What could we have done better today?” Once you’ve figured that out, you’re almost guaranteed to win the next game!
–Azarra, age 11, Ill.
Everyone always says that it doesn’t matter whether you win or lose, it’s how you play the game. But in today’s competitive world of sports, many people find this hard to believe. However, the way you play has a huge impact on whether you win or lose. After all, if you don’t play very well, how are you going to win? It’s important to know when you should be competitive and when you should play just to play. Sometimes being competitive is a good thing, because it motivates you. But the most important thing is to focus on doing your best and being a good sport.

Over react
how you play. In my class they over react if they lose. One time I was on the team with the best players in our class in they were horrible. One kid got so angry just because we lost.
Play On!
How you play! Winning’s cool but if you don’t win it doesn’t matter it just means you try harder!
playing
I think that everyone likes to win, it makes them feel like they have accomplished something great, but if you dont play for fun then its just a competition. When you play for fun its because you love playing a certain game, and when you have fun and you play sports it makes you a stronger person not only by body, but by mind too! have fun and play the games you love
-Em:^)
Work hard
You should really work hard to win,but if you don’t,no biggy. When i loose a game i just say to myself,” I tried my best.Maybe we’ll win the next game!”

SPORTS R 2 COMPETIVE
ALMOST ALWAYS THE WORD WINNING COMES UP. I DONT PLAY SPORTS BUT I WOULD IF PEEPS WOULDA JUSTA UNDERSTAND TTHAT SPORTS WERE MADE 2 HAVE FUN BUT NOWADAYS THEY R COMPETIVE, HAVE TRYOUTS AND CUTS. PEEPS WILL GET SO MAD IF DEY DONT WIN, ALL THAT MATTERS, A MILLIONTH TIME, IS IF U HAVE FUN, PLAY UR BEST, AND HAVE GOOD SPORTMINSHIP.
101% effort
i think that it matters most if you put all your heart into the game. that means you did your best and winning won’t matter. it’s all based on sportsmanship. after you feel you’ve put in 101% then you know that you’ve done the best you can and winning is no longer the most important.

The fun again??
Why can’t girls just play for the fun of things?Or is that so bad? They should play to win, but be fun at the same time! Not trying to kick the other players!
SpOrTs

I think that it’s good if
I think that it’s good if you get a prize. But if you overreact when you loose, or win (like nagging and bragging) your just acting like a 5 year old.
try
always try your best, and dont let anyone bring you down!!!!!!!
Winning=nope
I think how you play is more inportant… Winning is fun but you cant win everthing you do and every time you do it.
Miranda
Winning or losing?
It doesn’t matter if you win or lose! Try or best and try to win, but if you don’t win, don’t worry about it! Just have fun and try your best!

I think that winning matters
I think that winning matters most. It can help you think of better strategies, and can even help you think of better ways to play, because you may play good in one game and win, and then step up your game to GREAT and be unbeatable. THat’s why I think winning matters most.
Reply to I think that winning matters
No way! And winning doesn’t help you think of better strategies! Yeah, winning a game once in a while is a lot of fun but it shouldn’t be the main focus
Reply to: I think that winning matters
Yah, if you work harder on your game you will do better; but it doesn’t mean you should get a big head about being GREAT and unbeatable. If you do that you’ll just be, well, a jerk, nobody likes that. And when you play you’ll think you won’t have to work as hard and you might lose. You’re additude and how you play are most important when playing sports. When you’re trying out for a team the coach will be looking for some one who not only is good and gives their all, but has a good additude and is a good sport even if they lose. Winning isn’t everything. - Josie
Its not about winning its how u play the game
Its not how u win its how u play the game!!!!!Jordon in Idaho!
Winning is not everything
I go to a private school, and our school is very competive. (and the bigest sport of the year is track and field) so our gym teacher gives us ways to win. with our school is competive our school staff still tells us to try our best and have fun!!!! and that helps us to relax
same here
I don’t go to a privet school, but my teachers say to work hard and have fun. But, some of my other teacher’s are totally the opposite, if we loose, they say we didn’t try hard enough and have to add another hoer to the practice!
Both!
How you play the game does matter. You should be able to try your best and play fair….which sometimes results in you winning! Winning matters too. It shows that you have used good team work and did a great job. You must always keep in mind tho, that winning is NOT everything. You should always have a good time playing the game, and always know that u did ur best!
-Taylor~~~
..
you dont have to be good at something to love playing it. its just like if your bff dumped you because she didnt like your hair color. if you love playing something you should be able to play it without being made fun of.
-Jessy♥
both
well the point of a sport IS winning but it all comes down to how you play. for example i swim and we train untill march when we have golds, the big meet.
-xhanx
IDK!
I am very competitive, and I hate to lose, so, yes, I like the idea of winning more than the idea of having fun!
I really don't care!
I’m not really a Sports Chick, but I’d rather have fun instead of stressing out to win, or being bummed because I lost. -Gypsy Girl
playing and winning
well its how you play and you feel good about playing if u win u shouldnt tease the other people it makes them feel bad u could try giving them a high 5 or say good job,but not be mean about it.

How you play, of coarse!
I really think it’s how you play. I understand that winning is fun and all, but it is just a game. It’s not like you’re saving a life or anything, right? I’m not saying that you shouldn’t be proud when you do win, but in the end, it’s really how you play. And how you play also effects if you win or lose.
-Courtney =^..^=
What do u mean?
Well, do u mean how u play like skill level? Because if that’s the case, I say that NEITHER is more important. Like, skill level and winning, on a sports team? Through them out the window!!!! It doesn’t matter if you can’t score a goal in soccer and never win at tennis. All that matters is that you love the sport! One time I was horeback riding and my horse got spooked and I fell off. I was FREAKED out, shaking like a LEAF in a HURRICANE, and I knew I wasn’t going to get a ribbon. But I got back onto the horse and I finished of the show. So I didn’t win? So what. So my instructor had to walk around the ring with me because I was so freaked out i could hardly hold the reins. SO WHAT!! I don’t think skill level or winning are important at all. I think that’s what causes a lot of problems on teams. Even on teams where there aren’t tryouts and everyone makes the team, like the soccer team I used to play in, coaches get really competative. I mean, the coach on one of my soccer teams was really nice, and she would rally up the team witha big “Purple Poison!” cheer before every game. And we were PUMPED UP to the max so we gave it all we had. And we won some games, yeah. But although that was fun, it’s not important. I loved soccer then (I don’t play it anymore.) and I almost always got to play for three quarters of the game. But next year, I had a different coach, and I wasn’t one of the best players on the team. this coach was not a great coach and he didn’t encourage the team to much and we didn’t like, you know, have as much fun. And, like I said, I wasn’t one of the best players on the team. And there was this one position, sweeper, that I REALLY wanted to get. But I NEVER EVER got it. U guesed why… I wasn’t good enough. And that’s the thing. I think that just because someone is not the best player in the universe, they shouldn’t have to wait out the entire second half of the game like I did. Now, if you mean how you play like ur attitude, I think that is so much more important than winning. Like, you have to love the game and play with a positive attitude. And etc. If you mean how u play like do u cheat and shove? I think thats more important than winning two. winners are the people who play the gamem fairly and say “good game!” to the people on the other team. Losers, evem if they score more points, cheat, shove, and are you know… not nice.
RE:What do u mean?
they mean that in sports is winning the most important thing on your mind or is it how you treat others with kindness and encourage them jouring the game. so the choice acuttaly means, In sports what is more important, Just winning or how you treat the other people around you.
Does winning really matter?
I know we all want to say “winning doesn’t matter, what matter’s is playing well”. But, the point of a sport with two different teams IS to win right? Winning let’s you feel like you have acomplished something. And tell the truth, don’t you want to be the team thst wins? I know I do. We just have to rember to have good sportsmanship. We practice to get better and win right? Winning DOES matter.
Just A Game!!
Its just a game. U should hav fun with whatever ur playing. If u win thats great JUST DONT RUB IT IN its so unkool. If u lose not end of the world!!
Meggie here 4 all girls
playing
playing is more importent b\c professional players don’t always win but that dosn’t mean they aren’t gr8 at their sport
Playing not Winning
I think that how you play is way more important then just to win. I’m not saying you shouldn’t want to win but if you do you shouldn’t overeact and start jumping up and down and shouting to everyone that you won. Just smile and congratulate the people who didn’t win.
kinda sorta both♥
how you play is a big thing and if you dont like the sport then dont go out for it! two of my friends at the begging of bball season we really wanted them to go out for it so we said “we don’t care how you play if that’s whats keeping you away” and then one went out and convinced the other to go out and now bball is way WAY more fun since all of us friends are on the team. yeah we care about winning and losing but when we dont win we look back on our game and then we go and practice really hard and we go to our next game and get closer to winning!
love always, ♥ash♥
PLAY to win or don't play at all
You should deffinately play soprts to WIN b/c if all you can take from it is that you had fun, you really haven’t gained much! Sports are around to keep people fit and have somewhere to take out all of your rage! If you just sit there staring at the sky, thinking “Well, we lost this game 42 to 6 but I’m still happy about it!” then you never really get the chance to actually get into the sport! Wanting only to win helps people strive to do their very best in way that just wanting fun never could! -YeLLo Girl
ok
i love playing soccer, sure when i loose i feel bad. Bu at least i know that i lost with the people that i had fun with. Winning or loosing doesn’t make me feel any different about my teamantes or me. It was just another game, plus no one is ever a loser forever.
winning vs. playing
I think playing your best is all that matters. After people do most games, they look back and say, “I could’ve done better.” But if you don’t like saying that, PLAY YOUR BEST!!!! If you try really hard to win, you end up losing. It happens to my friends, and when I told ‘em to concentrate on the game and tips your coach gives you, you’ll 100%edly, totally, completely,
All in all, playing is 1,000,000,000,000,000x better than winning. :-)
Winning doesn't matter
Winn you play a sport i think that you should have fun and and try to improve your skills.
