BFF Twins

Winners: Sharon & Megan from Calif.

My BFF Sharon and I not only act alike, we also look alike. Many kids and teachers at our school think that Sharon and I are twins or sisters. We were born three days apart from each other. We also have a lot in common: we’re both Chinese, we both like to draw and we like the same movies, sports, animals, colors and foods. The weird thing is, we both have a little brother named Ethan! We are so close we argue and bicker with each other’s siblings as if they were our own.

Both Sharon and I went out for the track team this year. We were on the same relay team. Our team won second place in the All-City Championships. Also, we both won MVP (most valuable player award) together at the track ceremony. Our coach referred to us as “yin and yang.”

We actually met in an interesting way. I met her two years ago in fifth grade. It was all because of twin day. Sharon and I wore the same red sweater and blue jeans. Ever since that day Sharon and I have been BFFs.

BFF Twins

1st runners up: Amanda & Claire from Wash.

We look alike and act alike (we even say things at the same time)! We have only been BFFs for two years but it seems like our whole lives. Our hair color is the same, so are our eyes and we both have freckles. We had twin day at our school and dressed the same and everyone thought that we were twins, and we won a contest at school! We like to read the same books too.

BFF Twins

2nd runners up: Erin & Eden from Nev.

Me and Eden have so much in common. For instance, we both like to swim and play soccer, we have the same birthmark, we are both fans of Hello Kitty, our families are both Filipino, we are very fond of Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, we are very huge fans of Menchie Frozen Yogurt, we wear same shoe size and were both born in September and we are both artistic people. Even though we don’t have the same favorite color, we’re still BFFs and have so many other things in common.

Funniest BFF story

Winners: Sydney & Claire from Wash.

One day, we were at Sydney’s house and we noticed Sydney’s crush/neighbor playing lacrosse outside with his brother. We decided to impress him by “smoothly” walking by. But right as we were passing him, Claire started giggling and Sydney started laughing too! Claire fell down and buried her face in the grass. The boy and his brother stared at us. Sydney laughed so hard, she began to feel a dribble of pee down her legs (she was wearing a mini skirt)! The pee started dripping onto the sidewalk, right in front of the boys. Mortified, Sydney ran to the nearest driveway to finish peeing. Claire finally stood, giggled a muffled, “Sorry,” and followed Sydney.

Later, we found out that the driveway wasn’t some random neighbor’s driveway. It was…the boy’s driveway!

That was a few years ago, and we figured the only way not to be too mortified by the experience was to just laugh it off. We are still cracking up as we write this today!

Funniest BFF Story

1st runners up: Savannah & Mary Grace from Tenn.

One night I spent the night with my best friend, Mary Grace. We’d had a ton of cotton candy so we were both on sugar highs. We talked for a long time, about all kinds of things. At one point, we started to talk about an old fuzzy blanket.

“It’s sooo soft,” I said.

“Look at the clumps of fuzz,” Mary Grace said. We sat there for a moment.

“Attack of the fudge!!” she shrieked.

There was an awkward silence, and then we both cracked up!

“I said fudge, but I meant to say fuzz!” She giggled. We both burst into a fit of giggles.

Now, whenever I see her I say, “Attack of the fudge!” We even put it in our yearbooks!

Well, as Pam Brown said, “A friendship can weather most things and thrive in thin soil, but it needs a little mulch of letters and phone calls and small, silly presents every so often—just to save it from drying out completely.” I think friendship needs fudge too! –Savannah, age 11, Tenn. and Mary Grace, age 11, Tenn.

Funniest BFF Story

2nd runners up: Kayla & Mich.

I had my BFF over for a sleepover. We were watching TV in my room and having a good time. My older sister let us borrow her giant makeup case. We made our lips and eyes really dark. We made our eyebrows orange and drew on each other’s faces with eyeliner. We aren’t the makeup type of girls, but it was really fun and made a hilarious picture. After we washed off our faces, we looked like creepers! It was so much fun!!

Most supportive BFFs

Winners: Natalie and Alexis from N.Y.

We have been BFFs since first grade! But more than that, we are now sisters! In fourth grade Alexis’ parents were in a terrible car crash. It was devastating news when we got the call from the hospital saying that they had both died.

Alexis was so torn up inside. I was right there beside her, a shoulder to cry on through the tough times. Alexis’ parents were both only children and hadn’t written a will, so to make it worse, she had nowhere to go.

Since the crash Alexis has been living with my family. My parents worked so hard and finally got the papers signed to adopt Alexis! We were so excited—now we are sisters, and like real sisters we are always there for each other!

Most supportive BFFs

1st runners up: Julia & Alexandra from N.J.

Alexandra and I have been through everything together. When I say everything, I mean everything! We’ve cried through the toughest times and laughed through the silliest. When Alexandra’s house burnt down last year, she needed me more than ever. I’ll never forget the e-mail she sent me at 1 a.m:

Hi! I just wanted 2 let u no tat I won’t be able to e-mail you 4 a while. Half my house burnt down by a fire a few hours ago.

I didn’t know what to think! I forwarded the message to my mom who wasn’t awake yet. When she got up, we rushed over to Alexandra’s house faster than you could say, “I’ll be there in a sec.” What we saw was shocking. I didn’t want to look at it. I was scared…scared for her.

For the next couple of weeks Alexandra and her little sisters came over to my house. I skipped ballet for a couple days to stay with them. My mom and I pulled together a pile of clothes and we gave her littlest sister my baby doll and blankie. I tried my best to entertain them and do whatever they wanted to do and when they stayed in a hotel for a little while I helped them get settled.

Alexandra and I may not have had some of the best memories in our lives, but we’re there for each other when it matters the most. I know that if the same thing happens to me, which I hope it doesn’t, she will be the first one to comfort me, because that’s just what friends do. No matter how tough something gets, we will always be there for each other, through thick and thin.

Most supportive BFFs

2nd runners up: Brooke & Jenna from Mich.

In December of last year Jenna’s dad was killed in a car wreck. My family was very sorry to hear that her dad had died. We felt very bad. The next day was Sunday, so when I got to church I told my pastor what had happened.

My pastor prayed with me for Jenna and her family and I went up to the altar and my mom helped me pick out a prayer shawl, a blanket that the elderly women at our church sew for people that are going through a rough time in their life. (They pray for the healing of the recipient while they are sewing the blanket.)

I picked a quilt with all kinds of designs on it. My mom made a pan of lasagna to give to her family. Jenna’s mom and Jenna were very grateful. I got teary eyed. You could feel the sadness in the room.

I gave Jenna the shawl and told her if she ever needed anything to call me. I explained to Jenna that the blanket had been sewn in prayer and that it was to help her feel protected, as her dad would be watching over her.

To this day Jenna sleeps with her shawl every night thinking of her dad. Jenna and I hang out together even more than we did before she lost her dad. Sometimes she can be very upset and cry and sometimes she talks about him like he’s still here. But no matter what, we will always be best friends.

Super-Sweet BFFs

Winners: Maya & Avery from Vancouver

“Do you want to come to my house on Sunday?” my best friend Avery asked.

On Sunday when I was at Avery’s house we walked to Granville Island. She said we’d do something awesome but I didn’t really know what. When we got there Avery called somebody on her cell: “We’re here now. Okay, bye, Mom.” Oh, it’s her mother, I thought, okay, whatever.

“Let’s go up that hill!” Avery said. We got near the top of the little hill and what do you think happened?

“SURPRISE!”

My three awesome friends Kiara, Anya and Negar from my school were on the other side of the hill. I didn’t know what was happening. Why are they here? Kiara, Anya, Negar?! What’s…?!

“Happy Birthday!”

“Do you think you’re dreaming, do you want me to pinch you?” said Negar.

“It’s a surprise party!” Avery said. They all had stuff for my surprise party: pizza, Pepsi, cake and presents. It was the best birthday party in my whole life. Thank you to Kiara, Anya, Negar and especially the friend who planned it, my BFFAE (Best Friends Forever And Ever) Avery!

Super-Sweet BFFs

1st runners up: Jessica & Hannah from Ind.

Three years ago Hannah invited me to her birthday party and I told her that I would come. But I forgot that the party was during fair week. I was so focused on showing my animals that I completely forgot about her birthday party. When I got home there was a message on the phone. I heard girls laughing and yelling, and then I heard Hannah saying, “Hey Jessy, I was wondering if you are coming or not. Call me if you are. Bye!” I felt so ashamed that I had forgotten!

The next day I called her and told her how sorry I was. I wanted to make it up to her. She invited me to a Holiday Inn for a night to celebrate her birthday, just the two of us. Now I felt worse because she gave me this awesome trip when I had not done anything for her.

Later, during the next few weeks I finally got her a stuffed dog. She missed her old dog so much I though that it was as close as she could get to having her dog back.

As you can see, we are great, sweet BFFs!

Super-Sweet BFFs

2nd runners up: Isabelle & Erin from Ill. & Wisc.

My BFF, Erin, and I are inseparable. She moved to Wisconsin three years ago, but we keep in touch. Last year for her birthday I made us matching scrapbooks. I got adorable pictures from when we were little and from when we went on a nine-day driving trip to Canada. I spent two weeks taping photos and looking for cute stickers that said sweet things on them. I even found old Polaroid pictures of us having dance parties in crazy costumes! When she saw the book her reaction made all my work worthwhile. I knew we would always be BFFs!

Unique Introduction

Winners: Juliana & Amy from N.J.

I was riding my bike one way around the block and…we ended up crashing into each other…

When I was three years old, my family and I had just moved into the house we live in now. I was riding my bike one way around the block and my BFF Amy (who I didn’t know at the time) was riding the other way. We ended up crashing into each other, but instead of crying we got up and introduced ourselves.

“Hi! I’m Juliana!” I said.

“Hi! I’m Amy! Want to be friends?” she asked.

“Sure!” I replied, and that’s how we became BFFs!

We have been BFFs ever since that day (9 years ago) and the best part is our backyards are connected!

Unique Introduction

1st runners up: Jillian & Erin from N.J.

In kindergarten we went on a class trip to the zoo. I was friends with a kid in my class named Joey. We were strolling around the zoo when Joey’s mom said we should pose for a photograph. She took out her camera and we sat down on a sculpture of an animal. Two girls from my class, Katrina and Jill, walked by with their parents and asked if they could get into the picture. Of course, they we were welcome to join us. So, they hopped up onto the sculpture and into our photo.

Right before the picture was taken, another girl in my class, Erin, walked by. She begged her mom to stop so she could get into the picture, but her mom said no, it was too late. I overheard them talking and thought about what I had learned in school: think of others before yourself. So right before the picture was taken, I yelled “Stop!”

I said we needed to let Erin get in the picture. Before anyone realized what was happening, Erin ran with supersonic speed to get into the picture. She frowned, however, because there was no room for her. I moved over and made room and the ideal picture was taken!

In the end, Erin and I became best friends! I still can’t believe I have a best friend as great as Erin!

Unique Introduction

2nd runners up: Dayle, Bailey & Dharma from Manitoba

My best friends are Bailey and Dharma, who are sisters. Their mom and my mom met when I was really young. Bailey was a baby and Dharma wasn’t even born yet. There was a box in our neighborhood that controls all the phone calls that come and go in our area. One day someone ran into the box with their car and messed up all the phone calls. For a little while whenever somebody called my house, our phone and the phone at my friends’ house rang, and when somebody called their house, both our phone and their phone rang. Both of our moms would pick up the phone and say, “Hello” at the same time.

One day a mom on our street had a party and invited both our moms since they both had young children. My friends’ mom introduced herself to my mom and said that she was the one whose phone calls always got mixed up with my mom’s calls. After that, our moms started taking us to a play group. Our moms would talk while Bailey and I played together. When I got a bit older, I liked to go to their house to play, and when Dharma was born, we played with her, too. Now the three of us are best friends and we are inseparable. I bike to their house all the time, and I can trust them with anything. I am a bit older than them, but that doesn’t matter, we’re still best friends.

Best Long-Distance BFFs

Winners: Gaby & May from Calif. & Israel

In April I went to Israel for two weeks with my school and we stayed with other sixth graders in Israel in their homes. The girl I stayed with was named May (pronounced “my”) Shem Tov. May and I are now best friends. We Skype almost every week and we send each other birthday presents. We know about everything that is going on in each other’s lives. We always relive our memories and make new ones. I will never forget my two weeks there.

We have so many inside jokes! Our group had a dance that everyone in our delegation knew, so once when we were Skyping, May played the song on her computer and we did the same dance halfway around the world from each other.

Distance doesn’t keep us apart. We are best friends ‘til the end of time and nothing will ever change that. Although we’re halfway around the world from each other, we know that we will always be there for one another. I’m so glad May is in my life because it wouldn’t be the same without her!

Best Long-Distance BFFs

1st runners up: Hallie & Elizabeth from Va. & Germany

My name is Hallie and my BFF is Elizabeth. I live in Virginia and she did too at one point. When we were in fourth grade, near the end of the year, she told me that she would be moving to Germany! We share a BFF necklace and keep in touch through e-mail. It’s still not the same, but our friendship has stayed strong. She’ll come back to the USA in 2013 but until then, I think we’re the best long-distance BFFs.

Best Long-Distance BFFs

2nd runners up: Emily & Friend from Australia & British Columbia

My best friend and I have been friends from birth. We both lived in British Columbia but when I was 10 I moved to Australia and she is still my best friend. The way we stay close by sending each other mail. I send her cool little Aussie things by mail. Me and my friend should be best long-distance BFFs because we were like a match made in heaven and our two different personalities fit together like jigsaw pieces.

When we were in school, we were always together, in work groups, at recess and lunch. We were never apart unless we had to be. I haven’t seen my friend in person for 20 months, but we talk and she says she is still my best friend. This is why we should be long-distance BFFs. –Emily, Australia

Best Boy BFF

Winners: Holly & Ben from Ontario

I have lots of girl BFFs and I love them a lot, but my friendship with Ben is very unique and special. We became guy-girl BFFs around last year; even though we were in the same class before that. Suddenly we just started talking.

Our friendship works not only because we have similar points of view, but more importantly because we know we’ll never judge each other. I can be myself around Ben because I know he wouldn’t look at me differently otherwise. We also share secrets that we never tell anyone! We love laughing at jokes with our other friends at the lunch table together or sharing opinions. I know Ben would never replace my girl friends, but I like having him around. Best friends forever!

Best Boy BFF

1st runners up: Kaylyn & Colby from Maine

My boy BFF’s name is Colby. We are two months and four days apart. Colby and I have spent lots of time at each others’ houses. I have known Colby more than almost anyone in our school. One day in the winter when we were five or six we went on the ice and we were pretending that it was glass on the ground and we were breaking it. Then one year later in first grade we were writing about something we had done in the winter when we were little. Colby wrote that he was at Kay-K’s house (that’s me) and we were breaking glass—and his mom and our teacher thought he meant it was real glass! So Colby and I had to meet with our moms and our teacher and explain that it was just ice, not real glass.

Another time we had the entire family over for a barbeque and Colby and I were in my room telling jokes and we laughed so hard guess what…yup! I peed myself myself! It was so humiliating but it made me laugh even harder and to this day we still tell all those memories!

Best Boy BFF

2nd runners up: Allison & Josh from Del.

My best friend, Josh, is a boy. Our friendship works out because we are always telling each other everything. We are like brother and sister! We both love playing the Wii at the YMCA. We love playing golf the most. I may not be that good at the Wii golf but we have tons of fun laughing at me.
