They may be young, but these talented athletes are already recognized as among the best in their sports.
Jenna Richmond

Soccer Star
Favorite Position: Offensive Midfielder
Home: Centreville, Virginia
Team: McLean Freedom
Age: 14
Jenna Richmond has had a passion for soccer since she was just four years old…and she’s been scoring goals ever since.
Jenna plays for a highly competitive club soccer team and dreams of someday playing for the U.S. Women’s National Team. Last year, she took a major step toward that goal, by traveling cross-country to participate in the U.S. Olympic Development Program, which trains young athletes with Olympic potential.
In a game, Jenna strives to support her teammates from the middle of the field. “I like controlling the ball and being able to distribute the ball to my teammates,” says Jenna. “I’m fast at the ball and accurate, and I see the field differently than other players.”
So what’s Jenna’s biggest challenge? “Being able to last the whole game under brutal conditions,” says Jenna. “And playing against someone stronger or faster.”
Jenna’s words of wisdom? “Try your best at everything you do and work hard. You never know what will happen!”

Jazmine Orozco
Volleyball Star
Favorite Position: Middle Blocker
Home: Long Beach, California
Teams: Lakewood High School, Southern California Volleyball Club
Age: 14
At six foot one, Jazmine towers over girls her age at school, but when she played with the U.S. Girls’ National Select team last summer, she was actually one of the shortest players on the court! Like all volleyball players, Jazmine plays every position, but she’s happiest front and center—where most of the action is!
Jazmine says she wasn’t very good (or very tall) when she started playing in fifth grade. But she loved playing with a team, and that’s still one of her favorite things about the game.
Jazmine hopes she’ll have the chance to prove herself as a member of the U.S. Olympic team someday. She’s already competed in the Junior Olympics three times, and in the USA High Performance Volleyball Championships, a competition for athletes who hope to play for the U.S. national team.
Is volleyball your thing? “Go for it!” Jazmine advises. “Coaches are going to pick someone who’s willing to work really hard over someone who is good but doesn’t have the right attitude. So just get out there!”
