Take a Time Out

Take a Time Out

Everyone feels overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, or exhausted every now and then. It can be difficult to manage those feelings, but if you can stay calm, you'll be able to deal with all of life's surprises better. Here's one way to help you stay calm, slow down, and relax. Sit in a comfortable, cross-legged position with your spine straight. Let your eyes close and bring your awareness to your breath. Feel yourself breathe in and out. After a few breaths you'll notice you can take longer and deeper breaths. Gradually try to lengthen your inhales and exhales for 10 counts each. When you're done open your eyes and notice how you feel. Are you calmer? More relaxed? Ready to face the day?
What’s In Your Bag?

What’s In Your Bag?

If you carry a purse or tote, it’s easy to be prepared for anything! Of course, what you put in your bag depends on where you’re going or what you’ll be doing in a day. Here are a few basics that will be helpful no matter where you go. 1. Note pad and pencil. If you ever need to remember something, you’ll have somewhere to jot it down so you won’t forget about it later. 2. Hair brush and hair ties or clip. It’s good to have the option to put your hair back so you can go from class to PE or other activities that require movement. 3. Mirror. It’s always good to have a mirror around for those times when you feel like you might have something stuck between your teeth! What do you carry in your bag?
Breakfast: To-Go or No?

Breakfast: To-Go or No?

Q: Is skipping breakfast really that bad? A: They don't say breakfast is the most important meal of the day for nothing! The word breakfast literally means you're "breaking your fast" from overnight, so without eating a healthy breakfast, your mind, body, and metabolism never fully wake up and get the jumpstart they need to function through the day. You might feel fine at first, but your body will likely crash in just a few hours. Eating breakfast will help keep your energy levels up, boost your metabolism, and get your brain functioning at top notch. It's one of the healthiest (and easiest!) decisions you can make, and your body will thank you for it now and later. So even if you're not super hungry in the morning or rushing on the go, eat breakfast!
