Back to School...in Style!
It's pretty much official--summer is over. But look on the bright side: You'll probably get to go shopping for some new clothes, right?
Well, at least that's what I was thinking when putting together DG's August/September fashion section, "Making the Grade." There, you'll find ideas for outfits that we think are just perfect for heading back to class. And if you wear a uniform, these fall styles are ideal for hanging out after school with your friends, or for that oh-so-special "free dress" day!
So, do you know what you're wearing on the first day of school yet? Or how you'll accessorize your uniform? I’ll let you in on a secret: Being a fashion editor is a lot like putting together that perfect first-day-of-school outfit. There are so many different (and cute!) styles to choose from for our photo shoots--it's always tough to pick just one or two outfits for each page.
And I've been known to change my mind sometimes, too! How can you blame me, with that many accessories around? While our photographer is snapping photos, I always jump in and switch things up, like add another ring here, or throw on a cool cap there. Lucky for me, the models don’t mind the last-minute outfit changes!
So, if you lay out your new fave outfit the night before class (like I do with all of the clothes before photo shoots!), but change things up on the morning of the big day--or look in the mirror more than a few times before heading out the door (to, you know, readjust your headband one last time)--I totally understand! You can tell your mom that you’re just practicing for your future career as a fashion editor.

for my 1st day i wore dark blue skinny jeans,a cream colored hoodie with blue and brown polka dots with a brown cami underneath and brown converse.sweet!fabulous
On the first day of school i had on ZEBRA FLATS, BLACK LEGGINGS,AND THIS REALLY CUTE TOP THAT LOOKED LIKE IT HAD A MINI SKIRT ATTATCHED TO IT. i LOVED IT!!RE AWSOME OUTFIT

My set uniform is a plaid skirt that is green, red, yellow, and navy, a navy vest with a patch on it that says our school name and motto, navy kneesocks, a white blouse, and navy, black, or brown shoes. At first I thought I would hate wearing uniforms, but mine are actually pretty cute. Plus, I just express myself through jewerly,hair things, and a unique personality. Also, my school is awesome, so I don’t care about uniforms.uniforms
I have a uniform too! I also have plaid skirt and a red knit polo that has my school’s logo and name on it and I wear sadels. I’ve worn a uniform since I was in kindergarten so it’s not a big deal for me!!!DEAR MY UNIFORMS

Hey Julia! Thanks for mentioning uniforms. I wear them. On the first day of school, I wore a navy blue headband with white apples on it with a strawberry necklace. It was pretty cool. To shop for my first day of school outfit, I first went to aeropostale and got this green striped hemley and cream cami with lace to wear underneath. Them I went to Limited Too and got these super-cute jean bermuda shorts that looked wicked good on me. Then I wore laceless brown slip-on sneakers. Talk about comfort and coolness!!LUCKY U!!!!!!!!!! :o)

” Fashion is general, style is individual” what that quote means is that, say for example, everyone in your school is layering. That’s the FASHION. And say that they are all layering camis, but that’s not your STYLE, so you can layer different things like tanks, tee shirts and leggings. Now, you can still look FASHIONALBLE but you have your own personality and STYLE. That’s what i do. Right now everyone is wearing henley shirts from A & F ( abercrombie and fitch) and hollister, i wear henleys too, just in a different style. That is soo true, I change my mind like ten times at least EVERY day on what to wear, you should see my room the night before and the morning of the first day of school, this time it was a real mess! Here’s a little tip for other girls: You may care about what others think about you and you’re trying to look great right? Well, a lot of the time, I don’t get it right and some girl decides it would be funny to make a snyde comment about my look. My back to school outfit is: brown/green layered tanks under a red vneck longsleeve sweater. Plus these cute gold ballet flats I bought, and my new brown headband. I like your outfit, Amy! I don’t think it’s too much, it’s sounds just right to me. I have to wear a uniform, it’s not very pretty. I’ve always wanted to have those skirt and blouse and tie uniforms, but our uniforms are kind of sporty and huge… anyways, i think of uniforms in a good way, it’s kind of like wearing matching outfits with your friends to school~! But if you don’t like wearing the same things as other people, i’ve got some tips for looking different. 1. You can add in your own personality by choosing a cool school bag 2. Add charms with jump rings on your zipper pulls hair ties, and shoe laces, they look really cute! 3. If you’re not allowed to do any of that, then you can focus on your school supplies (pretty pens, notebooks…) and stationary, lunch box, and cell phone charms 4. I’ve noticed that clothes look different on different bodies. sometimes i tried the clothes that are popular and look good on my friends and look really weird on me, but if i pull it down a bit or turn it a little bit that way it would look good. I wear uniforms (they are ugly~ really. Navy baggy pants or shorts with white stripes running down the sides, super big shirts with a navy collar that i think my dad could wear… for the summer uniform. we could wear anything we want for the winter inside these jackets though, because it’s too cold.) I know some schools have really cute uniforms, like shirts with ties and plaid skirts. There are these taiwanese (i’m taiwanese, but i live in china) shows/movies about school life, and they have uniforms like that. They look cute though, because it just looks like wearing matching outfits with your friends, and you can do stuff with your hair, bags, and school supplies. i also noticed that sometimes, when you wear your uniform a certain way, a certain angle, it looks really cool and makes you stand out a lot from other people. hope these help!I need your help on deciding!
I cannot wait for school to start!! I have picked out a special outfit that is really cute! If you want to know what I am wearing then read below! - A light brown shirt with pink hearts going diagonal from the top corner to the bottom corner and the heart in the middle is lashy gold! (I hear brown works for girls with brown hair and thats me!) - Depending on what the weather is depends on what I wear to school. I will probaly wear Jean shorts that are light blue and dark blue faded together and they have a pink heart on the back, or with my heart shirt i might go out and buy some new jeans to wear! - I am going to have a shower in the morning and blow dry my hair and out lots of moose in it to give it volume and then leave it down so people can see my new hightlights! - And I am going to put on my favorite matching jewelry set! if you got a whole lot of new clothes don’t start wearing them untill the 2nd week of school and other people will wear there old stuff and you’ll be looking brand new but for the first day just stay simple if your style is anything like mine then you would wear alot of jeans and a t-shirt so just wear that aniyaSo Rox!

no i dont think ur outfit is 2 fancy, especialy cuz its with jeans i hate uniforms but sometimes its good bcuz some people compete with who has the nicest clothes and u dont have 2 worry about that with uniforms BUT im not allowed visible jewelry, big earrings, bright headbands, nail polish or anything like that and the shoes have 2 be “black polishale leather”I need your help on deciding!
Hi Amy! I’m here to give you some advice. I think your outfit sounds great! for the pants if you have or if you can buy.. dark denim will bring out the colour of your shirt and your highlights. I also think for jewellery you should do gold to bring out the “lashy” gold heart. I hope my advice has spme imput on your outfit and I hope you are satisfied with it! School is also starting for me in September (grade 7) and I am a little freaked, so some of this advice I am giving others has to go towards my outfit! :) Anyways, good luck and I hope your outfit turns out fabulous!RE Help on deciding

I usually get out all my new clothes because I definately don’t want to wear something old on the first day of school- who would?!!! Anyways, I will mix and match tops, bottoms, dresses,shoes, and assessories until I find the perfect outfit. It totally works for me. Oh and just if you are wondering I do a couple days before school starts in case I decide to chance my mind- But NEVER EVER pick out your outfit in the morning. my first day of school outfit is a light pink shirt with white sleeves and a white collar. The collar has hot pink rhinestones on it, and I’m wearing jeans with ties on the side, and I’m wearing a pear of etnies shoes with candy heart on the E and on the back.
