August 23, 2010 - Today I went to "Picture People" to get a couple pictures taken for my profile picture for DG! Here are a couple pictures from that day!
October 24, 2010 - Today my local newspaper, Southtown Star, featured me in an article! It talks about how I'm now one of the DG Role Models because of my achievements and goals in my life and that I’m being flown into California for a photo shoot. It also talks about how the DG magazine encourages girls my age to become more confident in ourselves and to be passionate in making the world a better place. Here is a copy of my article:
November 12, 2010 - Today was my brother Christian’s 7th Birthday. When we all got home from school, he blew out his candles and we went to Odyssey Fun World!
November 12, 2010 - Today was also the day when I got my folder from DG that has my itinerary of the photo shoot days, a sheet asking us to take a couple of recent pictures, and lots more in it.
November 13, 2010 - Today my mom took pictures of me for the shots I have to send in to DG. I was getting hungry for lunch and I like being in front of a camera when no one who could make fun of me is watching. So, to start having fun, I began to act pretty silly and pose in weird ways! My mom got a few of those crazy poses and some photos that were perfect to send in. I was laughing so hard when I saw the weird ones! Take a look at them yourselves!
December 5, 2010 - Today was mine and my family's first day in California! The photo shoot isn’t until tomorrow, so we went sightseeing with my dad’s friends! It was so cool because I saw the Golden Gate Bridge and I got to walk halfway on it! We also went down the curviest road in America– Lombard Street! It was weird, but fun!

December 6, 2010 - Today was the DG Role Models’ first photo shoot day! It was so fun! All of us went walking around Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf, and Ghirardelli Sqaure to take pictures for our behind-the-scenes pages in the magazine. I made 11 new friends that day… and I loved it! Here we are waiting for Cannelle to come… we wanted to greet her with big smiles! =)

December 7, 2010 - Today was our second but last photo shoot day! On this day, we took our in studio pictures. It was so cool to get our hair done and to be in front of an actual magazine camera! We took other pictures too, photo booth type photos with funny props and the article pictures where a girl does a pose depending on what the article is about. Here is my solo picture outfit...

Here is some fun information about me! I'm in the sixth grade, going into 7th grade. My hobbies include reading books, playing the piano and the clarinet, and hanging with my friends. My likes are my family, my life, school, books, Disney World, music and last but not least, DG! My dislikes are know-it-alls, rats, roller coasters and spiders...ewww! Words that describe me are brown-eyed, Asian, cute, hardworking, intelligent, fun-loving and easy-going! Thank you so much DG for this exciting opportunity and experience to be in your magazine! I absolutely loved it! The photo shoot was just for two days, but what happened in those two days I will never forget. Thanks for reading my photo diary. Thanks! Student Council has been always something I wanted to become a part of… right now I’m in 7th Grade and there’s still student council. I missed the informational meeting one morning because of this very important band practice I had to attend (Our band had to practice marching— yes, I’m in marching band— for this Fall Fest in our neighborhood). Since your a great role model, I need your advice. My guyfriend plays lacrosse, [so do I] and we are SUPER close. I want to come to his game to support him, and he said I could, but what if he is embarressed in front of his lacrosse friends to have a girl come to his game? Or what if he is distracted? Well, if I went to one of my guy-friends games, I wouldn’t really think about those kind of stuff because what matters is what I know is true and what my guyfriend knows is true. If his friends think something different, I would just simply tell them that what they’re thinking isn’t true. I wouldn’t want to stress on that topic because I know it’s not true anyway. If rumors spread, handle it in a calm manner. Ignore it, and it will go away after awhile, or tell an adult in school about the rumor and they’ll help it to stop if it’s really making you and your friend uncomfortable. Well, if your friend’s lacrosse friends tease him about you coming to his game, do what a best friend would do. Stand up for him. His lacrosse friends have to accept and respect the idea that he has a friend that’s a girl and all you want to do is watch your best friend play. Kids these days automatically think that if a guy is seen with a girl other than in school, they have something going on. I know how that feels because one time I was mistaken for going out with my cousin! :) What I’m trying to say here is that to stand up for your friend for him to feel more confident to stand up on his own— that’s what best friends do right? But if you guys are really close, your friend should know that he shouldn’t feel embarrassed about his best friend just because your a girl. Would best friends do that? Hmmm… I would say my favorite part of all this was meeting the other role models! Before I went to California, I’ve only seen them in pictures. I was so excited seeing them! And thanks! My name means “Garden, Orchard” and it’s from a Hebrew origin. But my Mom named me this because Carmel is in the bible. :)Role Model

Thanks! I miss you guys too! I actually went to the Philippines for three weeks and I just came back on Sunday August 7! It’s so tiring but the trip was really fun! I haven’t seen my cousins since I was two! :)Wow!
What was it like in the Phillippines? What did you think of the magazine? I was so excited to see it, but it made me miss all of the Role Models and California even more. I wish we would have had more time in California together.It was awesome!
Being in the Philippines was really cool! I got really dark even if I put a ton of sunscreen and apparently my OFF insect repelent doesn’t really work, but aside from that, the best vacation I’ve ever had! I went swimming with the dolphins, watched the Last Harry Potter in theaters, and took a picture with a tiger! I probably wasn’t a wild tiger though, but still! :D And I thought the magazine was so cool! I was so excited when I saw my face in an actual national magazine! :)Yes, I miss you and the other DG girls too. I go to sleep thinking what are my DG gals up to? :)So lucky!!!

Send in another questionaire! Just because you sent in one already, doesn’t mean that you’re done! You have more experiences to tell DG, so do it again if you really want to be in an issue! I was 8 when I first applied to be in DG. I wrote a rough draft, but I never sent it in. The second time I applied, I was 9. Again, I didn’t send it in. When the DG role model thing came up, I did the questionaire again, and this time, I sent it in. I really wanted to do it. I didn’t want to get distracted like before, so I put effort into it to finish it! :)You are so lucky

Go for it! If you really want to be in DG, send in a questionaire! You never know if you’ll get picked… :) From past experiences, I’ve learned that you should never let excuses stop you from doing it. Don’t say things like, “I’m so busy!” or “It’s too hard!” If you want to do it, you have to really put some effort into it and do it! Success is measured by effort… :)Role Models

It doesn’t matter if a store is “last season”. I think the store Kohls is a pretty cool store. I like their jewelry and I like the clothes. Just because brand named clothes are getting popular, doesn’t mean that you just have to shop there. It’s your choice if you want to seldom go into Aeropostale or Abercrombie. But just remember that it’s ok to stand out. Clothes aren’t the most important thing in the world… :)Totally Agreed, Carmel!
