Dear Ali,
My mom works hard to support my sister and me. I know how hard it is for her so I try to help out around the house by doing dishes and cleaning, but I never do things right. She always does everything over because I didn't do such a good job. But if I don't do anything she gets mad at me for not helping. Please tell me what I should do.

I can tell you're a hard-working girl who really appreciates how hard things are for your mom. First, be sure she knows how much you appreciate all she does! Then, how about asking your mom for a cleaning lesson? Let her know how hard you are trying, and that you really want to know how to do things right so that she doesn't have to re-do them later. Start with just one task—like doing the dishes—and ask her to show you just how she likes it done. After you get the hang of one job, move on to another. By asking for her help and letting her know how hard you are trying, your mom is sure to realize what a great helper you are!
